Milan
Milan (Italian: Milano) is a city located
on the plains of Lombardy in northern Italy. The city itself
is relatively small in terms of geographical area, and has a population
(as of December 2006)
of 1,303,437. However, the city is also surrounded by a large metropolitan area, and when this is taken
into account the total population of the area is around 7.4 million.
Milan is the financial center of Italy, and home to the Italian Stock Exchange
(Italian: Borsa Italiana). Additionally, the area around the city is
home to a large industrial base (including the automobile company, Alfa Romeo), and is internationally
famous for its contributon to the world of fashion and design.
